What makes your heart beat? What makes the planets spin and fly through space? What makes you breathe?
According to ancient Indian knowledge - it’s all thanks to prana. Roughly translated from Sanskrit as breath, life force or energy. It flows through our body through Nadis, which are energy channel (Nadi is also translated as “river”).
There are three main channels in our energy body, all of them running from the base of the spine all the way up to the crown of the head. The 7 points where these channels cross - is where prana creates whirlpools or wheels of energy - chakras (translated from Sanskrit as “wheel”).
According to Caroline Myss, chakras work as databases of information that we acquire throughout life. This information forms beliefs, behavioural patterns, communication styles, values, attitude etc.
As we grow up, the circuits of information are being plugged into these databases by our family and community. We learn about our tribe's values and principles, we observe our family members interacting with each other. Around the teenage time, we start finding our own circuits we connect to, we start defining our own databases. The more we mature, the more new circuits are being plugged in and some old ones get unplugged.
It is not an easy process. And it is very important. As it helps us grow, evolve and expand. We do this individually as much as globally. If previously it was a norm for women to have no rights to vote or to participate in marathons, thankfully today it is no longer the case.
In order for us to function in the best way, all chakras need to be balanced and equally activated. This means that we need to be in touch with our physical body as much as with our spiritual needs. We need to have healthy relationships, have the right attitude to work and money. We need to know how to enjoy life and how to love. It is also important to be able to express our truth and evolve intellectually. All these things are directly related to chakras.
